In The 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program

Hanover Park senior Carolyn Zhu (semifinalist) and seniors Matthew Fu,
Evans Patel, and Jeffrey Wang (Commended Students).
Hanover Park High School is proud to
announce that senior Carolyn Zhu of East Hanover was named a
Semifinalist in the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Program of 2012.
Zhu is among only 16,000 high school seniors in the entire country to earn
this recognition. This nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than
one percent of US high school seniors.
The principal, Thomas Callanan, of
Hanover Park High School, also announced that three Hanover Park High School
seniors of East Hanover, Matthew Fu, Evans Patel, and
Jeffrey Wang, have been named Commended Students in the 2012 National
Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and
National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program,
will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.
Background
About 34,000 Commended Students
throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic
promise. Although they will not continue in the 2012 competition for
National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students place among the top five
percent of more than 1.5 million students.
Both Semifinalists and Commended Students entered the 2012 competition by
taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“The young men and women being named
have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a
spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national
resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their
schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of
educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will
help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they
continue their pursuit of academic success.”
